NICK WINTERMANTEL

Nick Wintermantel has 10 years of experience in the energy and power industry. Given his broad based background in utility generation and planning, experience in project evaluation in wholesale markets, deal structuring, and negotiation of various power projects, Nick has been an excellent addition to the CEI team. Since joining CEI, Nick has performed system reliability studies for two of the largest utilities in the nation. Other responsibilities have included project specific consulting for coal, natural gas, wind, solar, and pump storage projects.
Prior to joining CEI, Nick worked for the Southern Company where he spent a significant amount of time in both its retail and wholesale business units. He managed the development and evaluation of new generation projects and performed various system planning functions while in the retail side of the business. While in the wholesale business unit, he structured and assisted in negotiations of PPAs, joint ownership agreements, and asset acquisitions in various wholesale markets.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Managed the implementation of a risk-based reliability tool (SERVM) developed with Southern Company for another large scale utility. Performed multiple capital project assessments in wind, solar, pump storage, biomass, coal, nuclear, natural gas.

Performed economic studies surrounding new generation projects, environmental controls, and retirement decisions for regulatory approval. Responsible for managing generation projects from regulatory approval to the construction phase up until the commercial online date.

Developed and structured PPA proposals, joint ownership proposals, full requirement deals, and asset acquisitions in the competitive wholesale energy market. These projects included IGCC, pulverized coal, nuclear, combined cycle, and combustion turbine technologies. Also forecasted regional energy prices and capacity prices for the eastern interconnect to fully evaluate merchant generation capacity.
